NU Health Service Pharmacy (Evanston) Website

Northwestern University students, visiting scholars, and Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary students may use the pharmacy, regardless of if they were seen at the Evanston Health Service. All are required to present a valid student identification card (i.e. NU WildCARD).

For individuals who may be having trouble affording their prescription medications at this time, sites like GoodRx can help find the lowest-cost option for most medications.

CVS Pharmacy (National) Website

CVS Pharmacy is waiving charges for home delivery of prescription medications. Aetna will offer 90-day maintenance medication prescriptions for insured and Medicare members.

Walgreens (National) Website

Walgreens is offering free Rx delivery for eligible prescriptions via “Walgreens Express". Walgreens is also partnering with Postmates to deliver over the counter medications and supplies from over 7,000 different Walgreens stores.

Free or Low Cost Clinics (National) Directory

• Although people who are undocumented are usually not eligible for health insurance, even through ACA, they can still receive health care through free/low-cost clinics that serve the uninsured. People who are undocumented are welcome and will not be turned away from free/low-cost clinics.A directory of free clinics across the country can be found here.

Emergency Rooms (National)

• If you are experiencing an emergency, emergency rooms and hospitals that receive Federal Funding (most do) cannot turn away any patient regardless of documentation and/or insurance status.

Pregnant Individuals (National)

• If you are pregnant, you can get care in the following states regardless of immigration status: WA, OR, CA, MN, NE, OK, TX, LA, AR, MO, IL, WI, MI, TN, NY, MA, RI, DC.

Children and Adolescents (National)

• Children under 18 can get care in the following states regardless of immigration status: WA, OR, CA, IL, NY, MA, DC. California is the only state to extend coverage to low-income, undocumented adults ages 25 and younger for the state's Medicaid program (Medi-Cal) covering roughly 90,000 people.

Exceptions to the Public Charge Rule (National)

• The Public Charge Rule went into effect on February 24, 2020. It made certain government assistance programs and other factors eligible criteria for denying immigrant visa extensions or a green card. However, testing, treatment and preventative care (including vaccines, if they become available) for the Coronavirus will NOT be considered as factors under the public charge rule, even if they are funded by public benefits included in the rule. Other factors will also be considered in this exception, for example if you lose your job or your place of employment closes down due to the virus, you may submit a statement with your application to adjust status or extend visa explaining how the virus has affected your eligibility.
