Emergency Rental Assistance (Chicago)

The City of Chicago administers emergency rental assistance individuals affected by a temporary loss of income. Payments are made directly to the property manager. Residents must apply in-person at one of the Community Service Centers.

Evictions (Illinois)

Governor Pritzker issued an executive order ordering all state, county, and local law enforcement to not enforce evictions through the duration of the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamation. This order does not stop landlords from filing for and starting eviction proceedings, which could be completed after the disaster proclamation

Mortgage Payments (National)

Hardship programs are available for homeowners whose loans are guaranteed by Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac. Mortgage servicers are listed on customer's monthly mortgage statement or coupon book.

Metropolitan Tenants Organization/MTO (Chicago)

Metropolitan Tenants Organization is an agency that provides advocacy, education and organizing help to tenants to help them exercise their human right to affordable and safe housing. They have an easy-to-use website called 'Squared Away Chicago' and a Tenant Rights Hotline.

Connections for the Homeless (Evanston)

An organization based in Evanston that provides homelessness prevention, housing, and shelter. They serve 38 communities in north suburban Cook County.

Peoples Gas (Chicago)

Peoples Gas has suspended disconnections for all customers, except in the case of natural gas leaks or unsafe conditions. They are also waiving late payment charges. They are offering payment plans for those who are impacted or otherwise experiencing a hardship due to COVID-19.

Nicor Gas suspending service disconnections and waiving late payment charges until May 1.

ComEd (Northern Illinois)

ComEd is suspending residential and commercial disconnections until at least May 1st.

Chicago Water Management (Chicago)

Chicago Water Management has suspended water shut-offs. In addition, no late penalties will be assessed and no debt will be sent to collections until after April 30. This means payment for water bills is not expected until May 1, 2020.

AT&T (National)

For 60 days, AT&T will waive late fees and will not terminate service for those who cannot pay their bills due to COVID-19. AT&T is expanding Access from AT&T, their low-cost home internet offering to qualifying households the program offers Internet for $10 a month. New customers will receive 60 days of free service.

Comcast (National)

Comcast will not disconnect service or assess late fees for customers who contact them during this period. Xfinity hotspots will be available to anyone, including non-Xfinity subscribers, for free. You can also get their Internet Essentials for free for 60 days, followed by $9.95 per month.
