Number of Drinks on a Typical Occasion
These diagrams, broken out by biological sex*, measure the average number of drinks an individual consumes on a typical occasion. The larger a circle appears, the higher the percentage is for that amount.
One standard drink = 12oz. beer, 5oz. wine, 1.5oz. 80-proof liquor
Of Note:
- Over two-thirds of Female students who drink consume 3 drinks or fewer on a typical occasion. However, 23.6% are typically consuming 4 or 5 drinks.
- While the majority of Male students who drink consume 4 drinks or fewer on a typical occasion, a significant percentage (23.5%) skew higher, typically consuming 5, 6 or 7 drinks.
- Typical drinking level for Male students appears to peak Sophomore year at 4.1 drinks, while Female drinking appears to peak in their First Year at 3.2 drinks.
