State Authorization of Distance Education

Northwestern University is committed to complying with applicable state authorization requirements that govern distance education and out-of-state educational activities. We are actively monitoring developments in jurisdictions in which we are active and, if authorization or licensure is or becomes necessary, we will obtain the necessary approvals.

Many states do not require authorization for programs that are solely online, but among those that do, Northwestern has either obtained approval or is in the process of obtaining approval in all other states where it is required.

Northwestern participates in the State Authorization Reciprocity Agreement.
