Sexual Assault Awareness Month

April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM)!

The purpose of the annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) campaign is to understand, impact, and foster connection around sexual violence. Although it is important every month to remain involved and create space for those impacted by gender-based violence, April provides a time for us to pause and reflect on the importance of moving from awareness to action. For more information on the history of SAAM, you can check out the National Sexual Violence Resource Center (NSVRC) here.

The national theme for SAAM 2023 is “Drawing Connections: Prevention Demands Equity.” This year's campaign demands that all individuals, communities, organizations, and institutions understand our interpersonal identities in order to transform ourselves and the systems surrounding us to build racial equity and justice.

In our effort to build a world without sexual violence, we must center the needs and lived experience of those most impacted by systemic oppression. When we draw connections, we recognize that ending all forms of oppression is the way we end sexual harassment, assault, and abuse. Join CARE, NSVRC, and advocates across the country as we draw connections between interlocking systems of oppression and the underlying causes of sexual assault – as it is crucial to making real, large-scale, and lasting change.
