Rignesha Prajapati

Assistant Director

Assistant Director

  • Where do you call home?
    • I was born and raised in Ahmedabad, Gujarat in India and my family has resided in Skokie, IL ever since we moved to the United States. In that sense, both Ahmedabad and Skokie are my home.
  •  What do you do at Northwestern?
    • I am one of the new Assistant Directors on the Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) team. I will be advising some of the APIDA student organizations on campus. Additionally, in alignment with our department’s mission, I will be conducting programming that creates opportunities for community engagement and identity expression for the Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) students.
  • What groups/committees/communities are you part of at NU?
    • As I become more accustomed to the University, I look forward to exploring how I can be a supportive member in other groups/ committees/ communities in future.
  • What are you passionate about?
    • In the conversations of diversity, equity, and inclusion in higher education, APIDA students are often left out due to the omnipresent model minority myth. For this reason, I am passionate about advocating for support, programs, and services which meet the needs of APIDA students on campus. I am also passionate about continuing my own growth in becoming a better ally to other minoritized communities.
  • What are some moments/accomplishments/project that you have been proud of?
    • At my previous workplaces, I was heavily involved in working with APIDA students, staff, and faculty members on campus in various roles and capacities. I am proud of the programming and support we created on each campus to support our community. I look forward to continuing to do this work of creating spaces and opportunities where APIDA community members as well as allies can come together and work in solidarity at Northwestern University.
  • Where can you be found on campus?
    • I am mostly in my office at the Multicultural Center but at times I also like taking a stroll outside on the campus.
  • What do you like to do in your spare time?
    • I am an avid consumer of TV shows and movies. I particularly enjoy watching international shows/movies of all genres (minus horror). If there are subtitles available, I will watch it! I also love listening to music. Depending on the mood, I switch between South Asian, East Asian, and North American pop music. Aside from that, I like spending my time bonding with my cat.
