Administrative Assistant for Direct Primary Care Medical Practice (HIV Prevention & Treatment and Gay Men’s Health) in Greenwich Village, NYCTitle

The Administrative Assistant is responsible for welcoming and providing incredible customer service to
our patients, taking charge of extremely detailed and confidential administrative tasks, and assisting
the doctor with the multifaceted challenges of the healthcare industry.

We are the first Direct Primary Care micropractice in NYC. The core value of our practice is the primacy
of the doctor-patient relationship. You will work closely with the doctor in this small, friendly,
human-centered medical practice.

We specialize in HIV prevention & treatment and Gay Men’s health. The doctor has previously
volunteered with Doctors Without Borders, and has teaching appointments at Columbia and NYU Medical
schools. Dr. Vitt has been named a Top Doctor in NYC for the past 7 years in a row.

The position will provide a great mentoring opportunity for those interested in the healthcare/mental health
professions (pre-med, post-bacc, pre-nursing, pre-PA, pre-therapist/psychology/social work, studying for
MCATs or USMLEs, etc.), and will be an excellent resume builder for medical school/graduate school.
You will have a chance to see the doctor-patient relationship up-close. Our previous employees
have all been successful in achieving admission to medical school.
We are interested in hiring a graduating senior or recent college graduate who will be taking a gap
year prior to attending/applying to medical school or other healthcare/mental health graduate
school programs.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities
● Provide incredible customer service to every patient
● Greet and welcome patients to the office
● Maintain absolute patient confidentiality and discretion in accordance with professional
expectations as well as HIPAA policy
● Answer phone calls, emails, questions, etc. in a prompt and polite manner
● Manage patient scheduling, onboard new patients, and manage new patient inquiries
● Handle payments accurately and responsibly
● Enter patient information and scan, update, and file medical records accurately
● Communicate with patients, pharmacies, laboratories and other offices under doctor’s guidance
● Assist patients with coordination of care and navigation of the healthcare bureaucracy
● Coordinate laboratory specimens for send-out
● Help maintain a clean, courteous, and professional working environment
● Organize and maintain supplies
● Assist with appropriate clinical matters when necessary
● Assist with website content and possibly small research/writing projects
● Possibly assist with phlebotomy (blood-drawing)
Qualifications
● Interest in Gay Men’s Health and HIV Treatment and Prevention
● Interest in the healthcare/mental health professions (e.g. pre-med, post-bacc, pre-nursing,

● Recent undergraduate degree in any field
● Friendly and can-do attitude with patients and coworkers, and a great sense of humor

Athletico Rehab Aide Opportunity

Winnetka Athletico location is in need of several rehab aides due to most of our current aides heading back to college. 

The rehab aide position provides a very valuable experience for any pre-healthcare student. There is a significant amount of patient interaction which is what most of the aides love about their position. We currently have several Northwestern students working as aides and it is fun to cheer on the wildcats in support of our team! It is a paid, part time position.

Our hours are 7am-8pm M-Th, 7 am-6:30 pm friday so we have several shifts to fill those hours. The hours are very flexible.

Feinberg School of Medicine Research Study Coordinator

Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine is looking for full-time (Monday-Friday) research study coordinators to begin work following graduation (or to begin part-time work now and transition to full-time later). Research experience is not required.

The Center for Women’s Mental Health is a clinical and research program within the Department of Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital. Medical Student Pride Alliance Internship

Medical Student Pride Alliance (MSPA) is seeking a pre-med intern to help continue work on the LGBTQ+ Equity Report Card. This project aims to assess equity and inclusion of LGBTQ+ students at various medical schools. This role will involve data collection, data analysis, and creating a summary report and requires a minimum commitment of 1 year. NEUROBEHAVIORAL TREATMENT DISCOVERY LAB

The goal of our research group is to understand causes and advance novel, personalized
treatment approaches for fragile X syndrome and related neurodevelopmental disorders. Our

Northwestern University Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Training Program (NU-MHRT)

The Northwestern University Minority Health and Health Disparities Research Training Program (NU-MHRT), directed by Melissa A. Simon, MD, MPH, Director of the Center for Health Equity Transformation, provides health disparities research training experiences to minority and other underrepresented students and trainees at the undergraduate through postdoctoral levels in order to prepare and enhance the next generation of scientists committed to research for improving minority health and reducing health disparities.

Trainees can focus their research and skill development in any aspect of interest that advances health equity, including but not limited to basic, translational, clinical, and population science. Research theme areas can include women’s health, cancer, health care quality and patient-centered outcomes (PCOR), chronic diseases, global health, mental health, etc.

This full-time training program is available for the following trainee levels:

PCC Gap Year Program

PCC Community Wellness is recruiting for our 2023-2024 Gap Year program. PCC is a network of Federally Qualified Health Centers on the West Side of Chicago, serving medically underserved patients in low-resourced communities. PCC Community Wellness’ Gap Year program is a cohort of individuals who are interested in pursuing medical school, PA school, nursing, etc. but would like to work within the healthcare field for a year (or two) to expand their horizons and gain experience serving underserved populations. Postbac IRTA/CRTA

The National Institutes of Health post-baccalaureate IRTA program is a great way to become involved in clinical and laboratory research at the main NIH research campus in Bethesda, Maryland. This program is designed for post-grads looking to apply to graduate school in 1-2 years. Specifically, Dr. Deborah Merke (Chief of the Department of Pediatrics) and her team research and treat Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia (CAH), an endocrine disorder. The team sees patients of all ages at the Clinical Center (the NIH's research hospital), and the roles of the IRTAs vary widely. Each day the IRTAs may be involved in a variety of tasks, including bench research, clinical trials, and seeing CAH patients in clinic. We are looking for motivated students who are planning to apply to medical school and who are willing to commit to a two-year position.

Research Assistant positions will be available at the Tisch Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York (Tisch MSRCNY) starting the summer of 2022. Tisch MSRCNY is an independent research center in New York City under the direction of Saud A. Sadiq, MD. The mission of Tisch MSRCNY is to find the cause and cure for multiple sclerosis through a multidisciplinary approach incorporating the fields of immunology, molecular biology, stem cell biology, neuroscience, and clinical translational research. The Tisch MSRCNY is closely affiliated with the International Multiple Sclerosis Management Practice, creating a unique environment designed to accelerate the pace of scientific discovery.

Open positions include (1) Laboratory Research Assistant and (2) Clinical Research Assistant. Ideal candidates for this educational opportunity are students who have recently completed their undergraduate education and seek a rewarding experience in a biomedical research program before attending graduate or medical school. Research Technician

he Feinberg Research Institute seeks a qualified individual for a newly available Research Technologist position in the laboratory of Hossein Ardehali.

There are three major projects in the lab: 1) studying the role of various cellular proteins in cardiac, immune and cancer metabolism, 2) role of mRNA-binding proteins in cell regeneration, and 3) characterization of cellular and mitochondrial iron homeostasis. Using mouse models, histology, cell culture, differential expression analyses, and molecular biology assays, our lab studies the molecular mechanisms that regulate metabolic processes and iron homeostasis both in the cytoplasm and mitochondria.

Scribe America Part-time & Full-time Positions

The central role of the Medical Scribe is to relieve the physician of clerical or secretarial duties; thus, allowing the physician to focus more directly on clinical care. The scribe observes the physician during patient encounters and performs documentation on the physician’s behalf. Under the direction of the physician, they enter information into the patient’s electronic or written chart. At the physician’s request, the scribe must be able to locate past medical records, prior lab/radiology results, or past visit histories for the physician to review. Additionally, within the EMR itself the scribe needs the ability to enter data into the chart on the physician’s behalf. All scribe-entered data is reviewed and authenticated by the physician. 

Qualifications:
-Must have a high school diploma or GED. Experience in the medical field is preferred
-Computer and typing skills are required 
-Familiarity with medical knowledge preferred 
-A responsible and mature individual with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Position type: Entry-level. Part-Time, typically 2-3 shifts per week. Full-time, 4-5 shifts per week. Average shift is between 8-12 hours. Hours will vary depending on location and specialty.

Somos Hermanos Gap Year Programs

Somos Hermanos programs are designed to equip participants with the language skills and cultural competency they need to provide high quality professional services to Latinos. Students are not required to have previous Spanish language experience before participating. The 5-month program is broken into three phases that entail a mix of one-on-one language instruction, community based volunteering and cultural activities. The program is open to anyone post undergraduate degree in the U.S. or Canada entering the health care profession (i.e. medical, nursing, therapist, dental, pharmacy, physician assistant, public health, etc), entering the legal profession, social services, or education professions. Stanford CARE Scholars Research Program

The CARE Scholars Program is a year-long virtual program to train the next generation of leaders in Asian and Global Health in precision medicine techniques.  The program is anchored by a 9-week summer data science research immersion for vulnerable populations and provides Scholars with opportunity to work with Stanford faculty, to grow as researchers and leaders, and to publish their research (2 papers expected per team).   

Leveraging Stanford’s unique ecosystem, Stanford CARE Scholars receive intense mentoring around research methods, participate in over 50 seminars, learn to network, work with our Implementation Science Fellows, and learn to ask and answer critical questions in precision medicine.  This highly successful program is entering its 5th year.

SUMMIT: Residential Spring Academic Immersion Program

Join us this spring for a 2-week immersive program from May 22nd to June 2nd, 2023 to introduce diverse students to the OHSU dental school experience. This program is for juniors through post-baccalaureate students.

The Northwestern Network Mentorship Program

The Northwestern Network Mentorship Program, managed by the Northwestern Alumni Association, matches Northwestern alumni with current undergraduates and other alumni to form mentoring relationships. Among the Northwestern alumni registered in the network are medical doctors and other healthcare professionals, and many of them are willing to have a mentee shadow them in their workplace. Sign-up is available year-round. 

USC Online Pre-Med Academy

Offered free of charge through USC Bovard Scholars, the USC Pre-Med Academy is designed for high-achieving college students, nationwide, who have financial need and lack the resources needed to succeed in the highly competitive medical school application process. Our support is provided in addition to the support they are receiving on their journey to medical school.  We work with students by encouraging them to utilize the resources on their home campus, while also tapping into our free MCAT prep course, guest speaker panels, and peer support from around the nation.

Volunteer Dental Assistants

CommunityHealth, the largest volunteer-based free health clinic in the country located in the West Town neighborhood of Chicago. CommunityHealth provides primary and specialty care, medications, lab testing, mental health services, and health education at no charge to nearly 10,000 low-income, uninsured adults in Chicago, thanks in large part to our team of over 1,000 volunteers.  We are always in need of additional volunteer Dental Assistants.

Volunteer Opportunity

Connections for the Homeless in Evanston is offering volunteer opportunities for undergraduate students interested in the health professions.
Undergraduate students interested in the health professions work under the supervision of our health team. Students may be assigned to one or more of a variety of clinical activities based on the student’s interests and background. Students may work in our clinic at Hilda’s Place (1458 Chicago Ave in Evanston) or the Margarita Inn (1566 Oak Ave in Evanston) or work with housed participants in our programs.
