Attesting to the Handbook

Upon hire, staff members (including Postdoctoral Fellows, Research Associates, and Faculty Librarians) are required to attest that they have received the Staff Handbook. This confirmation of receipt will be retained by the University. Complete the process in myHR

Summary of updates for September 2022

The following key updates are reflected in the 2022 Staff Handbook; for any questions regarding these updates, please contact your HR Business Partner.

  • Appeals of Involuntary Terminations of Employment (Page 2.14)
    Clarifies that the Vice President for Human Resources may assign a designee who may also review appeals.
  • Dependent Reduced Tuition Plan and Dependent Portable Tuition Plan (Page 5.3)
    Clarifies eligibility requirements for these Plans.
  • Extended Sick Time (Page 6.6)
    The additional job protection that may be approved if a staff member has at least five years of continuous benefits-eligible service has been changed to four months effective September 1, 2022.
  • Workplace Based Outside of Illinois (Page 8.4)
    Clarifies the University’s guidelines and procedures regarding workplaces based outside of Illinois and aligns to the Policy on Workplace Strategies.
  • Flexible Work Arrangements (Page 9.2)
    Aligns to the Policy on Workplace Strategies.
